Trying to offer a constructive thought on the Kavanaugh hearings
I don’t have much good to say about the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation process. The most constructive thought I’ve got right now is that we might want to learn to listen to each other better.
I don’t know if a mutual, sincere effort by both Democrats and Republicans to hear what all involved had to say would have done anything to change the outcome. But maybe the journey would have been more decent. Perhaps we could never agree on whether Judge Kavanaugh attacked Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, or is the right person to fill a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court. But if we offer space for those we disagree with to speak honestly and openly with us, we could all become more mindful of each other’s humanity.
Surely that would be better than what we have just witnessed.
